Default Polishing Z06 wheels

I'm thinking of stripping the paint and polishing my 04 Z06 wheels. I've polished other wheels before but I'm not sure what's underneath all that gray paint.

Anybody else have any experience with this?

You might try a small spot on the back of spokes and see how smooth the aluminum is under the paint?

this is an option, although, I have seen a lot of aftermarket wheels crack(ie: spokes), they are usually about 3-6lbs heavier per wheel and not on par with the OE quality

Methylene Chloride will strip the paint, not sure if the Al is smooth enough to polish underneath

I have a rim stripped at home already. The aluminum isn't smooth but with the right compound it could be polished. I've used compounds similar to what Eastwood offers in their wheel polishing kits. It takes a little time but it works. You work your way down the gradeslike sandpaper - start off with a rough compund to knock down the rough aluminum then start polishing with the finer grades until you get to the finest grade. I've also used this on valvecovers and intakes and had several ask where I got them chromed.

Check with Bob at House of Wheels. He has had several shipments of real Z06 polished Z16 wheels for sale. Sell your old ones and get a new set and save yourself a headache. The metal under the paint is not perfect on regular Z06 wheels and it would be a bear to polish them and seal them like the Z16s are. Good luck
