Painting or coating an alternator
I want to paint or coat my alternator. I'm assuming that I need to tear the case apart to do this? Suggestions?

did this a while back it a little tricky getting the wires diconnected and removing everything, just take your time, its hard to discribe what you neeed ot do to remove the case. I used 500 degree black engine paint and its been holding up well

OK next stupid question. I am making progress, but can't seem to get the belt drive off the front. I don't have the clutch unit, just a nut with a torx in the center. Is there a special tool required, or just clamp the pully in a vice and john wayne the nut??

To remove put a socket with a long handle (breaker bar) on the nut in the center of the tensioner pulley (that pulley is on the right side of the engine - at the top) and rotate the socket clockwise as you look from the front (push the handle/bar towards driver's side of car). This will release tension on the belt and you can slip it off the tensioner pulley. RELEASE THE TENSIONER SLOWLY ... otherwise if you simple release pressure on the handle it will snap back with a lot of force.

You're talking about the serpentine belt ????
