2000 vette knocking when cold.
when car is running cold it sounds like motor is knocking. When motor starts to get temperature in it (around 180) it goes away. Someone told me that it might be a heat riser? Can anyone enlighten me?

Burning Brakes
It could very well be piston slap. Cold Vettes (and many GM V8s) are well known for it. Do a seach here and a Google search and you'll find lots.

Piston slap is extreeeeemly common! usually, and especially in that engine, it typically won't hurt a thing, but your pride, when you start your engine for your buddys, as they check out your car. GM would extend your warranty by five years and a 100,000 miles for that problem on the LS1, rather than fixing it. even on the old small blocks it really wasn't much of an issue. when I was into racing circle track, I had a 377cid small block that I ran every weekend pushing over 8,000 rpm. piston to cylinder clearance was set loose on purpose. I put the motor in a 70 Chevelle street car with mufflers, to my surprise those pistons never did shut all the way up, even full warm. However I would recommend, let engine warm up, before putting engine under high load or rpm. But thats a good practice anyway.
