I would imagine the injector spray patterns would be bad, therefore the engine wouldn't run right. I've got to add to your question though with my own related question if you don't mind...
When I re-fill the tank, I get a little pinging that goes away after some of the fuel is comsumed...like down to 3/4 of tank. I'm wondering if the fuel pump, therefore fuel pressure, is reduced due to the extra pressure force to get it to the fuel rails? So, in your case too, wondering if you are getting any pinging due too, to lean of a mixture?

A fairly common symptom is hard starting after the car sits for a while (like overnight) due to not maintaining pressure in the fuel system, although in the C5 this symptom can also be caused by a leaking check valve in the fuel feed pipe.
