Default Best floor jack(s) to buy to lift C5

I am ordering some wheels and would like to change them out myself. What jacks are you all using? Anybody find a jack that works without having to drive up on wooden planks (I guess I will if I have to  )? Thanks for any info. including where to get them. Thanks!

I've got the DK13HLQ, which slides under a vette & my 2 hockey puck jacking pad without having to drive the car onto a plank first. I think some other people around here have the 20, which doesn't have quite as long or low an arm. Also, I think there was/is a group purchase going on somewhere around here on these.

Costco has a jack that just fits under the jacking puck, but mine isn't lowered. The one I have says NASCAR on the side, and think it was $99. :)

the cheapest one I saw was at walmart. it was 29.95. I do not know if i would use a floor jack that cost 30 bucks though, it will fit under the vette with one hockey in the jacking puck slot. you need to remove the the little cup on the top of the jack to fit the hockey puck nicely. the height is only like 16 inches so you will need a different jack if you plan on doing the exhaust because you will not get the stock pipes out. I would go with AC Hydraulic floor jacks you can pick up a nice for about 200 bucks.

dexter, I got the DK13HLQ on a GP. It really works nice on the Vette. The extra reach and low profile are definite pluses.

Good luck.

I am also interested in getting a good jack. Is the GP still running for the DK13HLQ or did I miss out?

Thanks

Thanks for the responses guys. At least I have some options now. Another dumb a** question. Can I jack up one side of the car at a time (i.e. - front right) or do I need to 2 jacks to lift the front? I know...I know I am a rookie. Don't be too hard on me. :( Thanks!

Just bought a Speedy-Lift ProLift jack @ PepBoys for $68 ... raised my whole rear, 21" - not bad for a 2 1/2 ton (5000 lbs) cheap jack.

I jack under the front and rear aluminum substructures. I fabricated a wooden block from a couple of pieces of plywood to span the ribs and protect them from the jack. I then lower the car onto jackstands which support the car on those pucks that go into the tie down slots. If I started at the front, I then repeat the proceedure at the rear. Don't try to jack too much and watch what's happening underneath as the car tilts.

If you really want to get the car high, buy some big jack stands and a long arm jack in addition to your regular jack.

I just want to be able to take the wheels off one by one and clean them if necessary. Just want to make sure that it is ok to jack each wheel one at a time. Don't want to do any harm to the car. :smash:

I want to do the same thing as I don't want to put the car away for the winter with brake dust on the wheels. I was told by someone yesterday that using the rear tie down location on each side will actually raise the whole side of the car and you can remove both wheels in one operation. I am very nervous about jacking on those aluminum cross members, especially since the car takes an angle and you will be shifting the weight to the edge of the cross-member as you lift.

Gandalf, you just gave me an idea. I have my car lowered and inch and there is only 1 jack that will work and that costs $650 bucks...a lot of jack for a jack.

I hate driving up on the wood ramps i've built, so I'm going to get the $30 jack out of storage and see if I can use it to "pre-jack" and get the subframes high enough for the floor jack.

I spotted a jack at Costco Friday night for $75...Happened to tell my girlfriend about it Saturday morning that it was a 3 1/2 ton jack...She said, "It weighs that much? I wanted to get it for you for Christmas, but I'll never get it in the car."
Needless to say that while I was adjusting my exhaust, she rolled up and opened the trunk where she managed to get the jack in anyway. She's the best!
Anyway, for the money and the ocassional use, it is 5 inches min and 19 Max.
Two section quality handle and pro features with removable plate. It fits well as I use my hockey puck pads. I also have a cheapo 2 ton jack for those pre-lifts if needed. I use a good quality sizzor jack for maneuverability and small adjustments...GeorgeC

Nobody has really answered one of my questions. Can you jack up one wheel (i.e. - Front Right) at a time with no problems to the suspension? All I want is to jack the car high enough to take off and put on my new wheels and clean them occasionally. Thanks! Sorry if it is a dumb a** question. :bb
