Default What is the difference between the Optima red top and yellow top batteries?

I have seen some forum members recommend the red top Optima battery, and others recommend the yellow top Optima battery. Is there a difference? Thanks.

They are the same, except the yellow top is designed as a deep cycle battery. in other words, you can discharge and recharge it more often without hurting it as much. Boats are good examples of such a use for trolling motors for example. In automotive applications the red top should be sufficient. Those that run big sound systems may want to look at the yellow top, especially if not running the engine while playing.
