There's a TSB on the tranny seal. It's about $60, but you have to drop the carrier to do it. It starts leaking when the car sits in extreme cold.. then it just starts leaking..

that tsb said its recomended that sealant be applied to the side cover on installation..
Are they refering to the side covers that house the axle seals, one cover on each side?
I need to order all my parts so im just wondering..

That's one of them. There's another though about the tranny seal. It might just be on early a4's. I'll see if I can find it.
I know about it 'cuz it happened on my 2000 coupe... right after I had replaced the rear end. So, ya, I had to drop it twice.
edit: ok, I'm calling it a tranny seal but it's the seal that goes "to" the tranny. Item 1 in the pictures

C5 Diff Oil Leak
Be sure you have a leak before replacing the seal and "O" ring. I found after driving my 2000 hard, the Tail Of The Dragon, I had diff. lube dripping down the bottom of the side cover. It turned out to be coming from the vent located above the side cover.

An Anerobic Sealer is applied to the face only, not the "O" ring.
