I think DTE can arrange it so that you can put higher gear ratios in a 2.73 carrier. There are some places that can't/won't do it.
The other option is just to order a complete differential. Some people with stick shifts sell off the entire 3.42 setup from their cars when the move up in gears. They can be a good bargain and the MN6 diff can be used with an A4. Check the for sale section.
I believe you just have to move an adapter plate from the old differential to the new one when installing it. When I upgraded my 3.15's. I had them get a new stock Z06 unit. They gear set is stronger.

Another great option is Rodney from RPM. I had my diff shipped to RPM, they installed 3:73's with hardened shafts and sent it back for my shop to install. Been very happy since!

There are a few people that use 3.90's in an automatic. Your gas mileage will definitely decrease, but some people love them.

Have you tried contacting any of the forum vendors like RPM or DTE to see what they can get for you?

As far as I know, you have to get a special set of gears to change the 2.73's in the stock carrier. A regular set from a manual with a 3.42 will not fit. I went with a complete new 3.42 ZO6 rear and the car runs great. I don't think I would recommend anything higher than 3.42 unless you want a car for the drag strip.
A new ZO6 carrier is not cheap, but you can find a used one without too much mileage on it for about $500 or so.Or, you can just get a used M6 rear which is a 3.42 too.
Expect to get lower mileage, and you must get a tune to get the computer to recognize the new gears, and to get the shift points right.

I was thinking If will be better to put a torque converter like 2600-2800 on mine OEM 273 gear and not to change them?
Any opinion?
thanks...

I wouldn't tear down the the rear diff just for a converter. The converter won't give you the increased effective torque that you get from the gears.

EDIT: Are there junkyards anywhere near you that might have a wrecked vehicle you can get the rear end from?

A new converter with 2.73 is just a waste of money in my opinion. A converter and a higher gear set like 3.42 is a great combination. You may be better off trying to find a used 3.42 differential and swapping everything out.

You don't need to have a lot of choice. Any Corvette stick shift from 1997-2004 will have the 3.42 gear set and any automatics with the performance axle, which will have the 3.15 gear set, will also work.

Absolutely the best route to go for the least amount of $$$. There are many of them out there off of 6 speed corvettes which have gone to other gear ratios. A differential from any 6 speed C5 or Z06 will work.
