2000 C5 Horn Sounds of Typically in the Wee Hours of the Night
Over the past 2 -3 years the horn on my C5 sounds off with a steady blast. This has happened while the car is in the garage or sitting in the driveway.
Starting the car does nothing to terminate the horn blast. If I press on the horn ( center of steering wheel) the horn fades briefly, for about 2-3 seconds, them resumes.
Only disconnecting the positive pole of the battery stops the racket. When I reconnect the battery the horn operates normally.
Any clues on what's going on here.
Hopefully this fix is not as elusive as ABS failure when using aluminum washers on my Russell braided brake line! ( Tip: don't use the aluminum brake line washers. Use copper only.)

Replace the horn membrane inside the steering wheel. It has been available as a separate, aftermarket item, (as opposed to buying an entirely new air bag assembly as GM would have you do), for several years now.
