Best clutch upgrade search help
Hey guys,
I need some help trying to choose a clutch.
I have gummy clutch syndrome and I dont think I can stand to have my clutch much longer if I plan to get 600+hp
So, since the vette has become a sorta budget buildup now, I would like to know what the best clutch is out there that can easily hold the 600+hp I am shooting for.
Basically the bulk power mods are:
Lingenfelter s/c with a 3.1 pulley which will be upgraded to a 2.9
long tube headers
going with a mild upgrade cam (nothing to wild but still good and drivable)
upgraded heads (again nothing too outrageous just enough to support what I have)
then of course a tune
(i might also change the rear gearing a little)
So what do you suggest for the cheapest but best clutch out there (best bang for my buck)
also how much do you think a clutch job should run on my 99 mn12
thanks

while i haven't been racing c5s i have multiple other cars and clutches are fairly universal. what you need to ask the forum...or actually tell them is if this is going to be a street car or mostly on the track. i suspect an aggressive single disc could hold up to that as long as you aren't on slicks but a twin disc is going to be MUCH more forgiving on the street since you won't need the uber aggressive materials. i know exedy has a twin disc for $1700. i'm sure more will chime in but the decision seems to be if you want to pony up for a twin disc or use the single.

I'm running the RPS street Lite. It's not the cheapest but I do like to driving characteristics this clutch offers. But, I have to add that an adjustable MC is most likely needed as well. This part should come with the RPS clutch in my opinion. Probably my second choice for the budget minded would be the Monster Clutch. I know they recently had some manufacturing issues but, the company stood behind the product and worked with all those affected and they are reasonably priced. The clutch decision has to be one of the hardest aftermarket choices one makes when owning these cars. Best of luck.

the setup is mainly street.
probably never really going to strip it
if it is raced it will probably be on the interstate or something.
basically i would like the cheapest clutch that holds the best for the longest (while still being cheap).
street tires will always be used
also i would like a stock like feel

ok, how much does an ls7 clutch go for and what do i need to do to make it work in my car
also, what do you mean race it, i mean i will have the occassional runs down the road, or a light to light or maybe an interstate race
no track racing or anything like that

racing = slicks which are what really tear up clutches. with a normal tire it will break free before the clutch slips if the setup is matched up right. adding slicks puts that much more grip back there which goes right to the clutch.
doing a couple strip runs on street tires isn't going to be an issue provided the disc isn't slipping when you gun it. others with this setup and similar hp would be the first place i'd look for opinions on the holding.

you have to experience a twin to really take in how nice they are on the street and the power they can handle.

Still though I am looking for bang for the buck.
I want something that will hold and not slip, gum or explode with the horsepower I am running.
So as much as the twin disks sound to be the way to go I also see that people are putting $$$$'s behind them. So unless there is a twin setup that is similar in cost to a single setup, I think I would be looking at a single.
If some prices for these clutches could be given, I would appreciate it.
Also, what do you think it should cost for a clutch job? Since this I heard is tricky and alot has to come apart, just curious so I can base it out
Thanks to all that help

LS7 clutch can be gotten through Gene Culley. Stand up guy and CF vendor.
LS7ClutchKit is the part number (I think) Check his thread in the for sale section

www.Gmpartshouse.com
This should be good enough for what you need.
