Well for starters,, your in a HUD Repair post. Recommend that you start your own thread and go from there.
Second, Are you SURE that theres not any ACID damage on the wires in that area???? If you see RUSTY Frame and white deposits on the wires,, It very well could be acid damage.

Do you have any DTCs?

Looks like I'll be doing this tomorrow or next weekend.

This is a pic of my HUD taken with the camera resting on top of the steering wheel with the wheel all the way in the up position:

I must've broken something when I took the dash off and put it back on in April of last year. Yep, my lazy butt is just getting to it now.

Did some more work. The tabs are not broke on the mirror so that didn't fix the issue. I tore it down some more after fussing with it for a little bit. The motor seems to work but the mirror still wouldn't display the HUD high enough. After tearing the HUD down, I noticed that the end piece plastic where the tab goes in was worn and loose. Just put some epoxy on there, I'll install in a few minutes and see if that solves the issue.

I moved the tab attached to the HUD motor and it moves freely but when I did that with the mirror attached, it didn't want to move. Hope this solves my issue.

Huge thank you for this! I finally broke down and did this after seeing this post. So glad I did.

Now to reinstall the dash pad and put everything back together...

Yours has probably been repaired at some point and the mirror isnt set back at the correct angle. took mine apart six times before I was able to get the correct angle. I'm 6-2 also now i have plenty of adjustment up and down.

Thank you, pictures are awesome and the explanation is also very detailed. I'm looking for instructions on how to remove my dash in a 2005 to make these exact repairs.

The HUD bezel and the defroster vent are incredibly fragile, especially if the car has spent a good chunk of its life parked in the Florida sun like mine did. It's probably a good idea to go ahead and order replacements ahead of time.

Another thing to watch for...
As you take off the cover, note that there is a cable going from the base to the cover for the (I think) light sensor. When you put it back together, make sure the cable is routed around the optical path, otherwise it will show up as a shadow on the display at certain angles. And you probably won't notice it until everything is buttoned up and you're driving in daylight.
Don't ask me how I know that.
