I took my non working HUD out a little bit ago. Problem is, I don't see anything that's broken. Nothing is rattling around or appears loose. 2002, any thoughts?
Thanks

I just went and pluged it in and started it. It lights up, when I stick my head up near the visor, I can barely see it. So the mirror is the problem.

Great write up Jeff. Taking my own sweet time and making a couple of mistakes that cost me about an hour, it took me 6 hours, 3 beers, one trip to the store for a missing tool(before the 3 beers) and now I have my HUD back. That included changing out the ignition switch as well to fix a multitude of electrical issues.

Feels like I am driving a brand new car.

Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks for making a very informative thread. Adding this to my information files just in case I ever have to work on my HUD.

Don't sweat 😥 the HUD glare 😣. Go to Hobby Lobby and get a sheet of black felt. Trim to fit inside the housing body glass on the dash and glare on the winsheild is gone! 😎

I'm in the same boat, I have a 2005 and all of a sudden I got in the car cranked it up NO HUD. I don't recall hitting any large bumps but as cheap as GM
built it I wouldn't be surprised if the mirror has fallen, with that being said, if i'ts not the fuse (which I'm sure it's not, that would be just to darn easy) what
would you guys recommend as the fixall, taking out just the gauge cluster and cutting the plastic AC ducting to get the HUD unit out for repair or remove
the entire dashboard. I'm all ears....

thanks for this write up....I thought I was just too short to see my HUD. I'm gonna follow your process and while its all apart, I think I'll do the HVAC display fix and install a Double Din head unit.

I’m attempting to repair mine at the moment and am a little confused where exactly the repair grommet goes I understand about drilling out the mounting boss tab but does the grommet go in there in place of the screw or is it for the left side of the mirror and I still need to use a screw?

Default HUD image keeps going down

As I drive my image slowly goes down. It can somewhat be moved back to where you want it but it keeps dropping.

I've read the various ways to fix it but is there a way to just glue everything in place? My normal position is all the way up so I don't have to guess about where I like it. I'm also not worried about what the next owner is going to think about it as I'm sure I'll be dead.

You are both replying to an old thread. Better to start a new thread with your questions.

Just got mine fixed today. Had to deviate slightly from your write up but it's pretty much the same thing. My car is lowered slightly on the stock bolts so not sure why mine failed but it was the exact same thing you found. The one thing I did see in addition is there was no kind of bushing on the opposite side of the mirror. I made one out of heavy plastic to support that part.

I'm the exact opposite. I'm 5'4" and have to rotate as high up as possible and it still cuts off the very bottom of the display.
