fog lamp bulbs c5
Hi all, I know I have seen the part number for higher watt fog lamp bulbs for a c5 on the forum but I can not find it again. Can anyone tell me the watt size and the part number? thanks in advance

Stock is the 899 (37.5 watt) bulb. I upgraded to 885's (50 watt) with lots of improvement. A simple and safe upgrade.
BUT....most importantly, re-aim your fogs. They are set from the factory WAY too low. Do a search, I think there is an exact number of turns to get you in the ballpark.

If you use 885s and reain the lights higher you almost don't need headlights
Replaced my fogs with 885s about 5 years ago. Reaim the fogs by parking say 15 - 20 feet from a white garage door or something like that. Use the low beam height to set the fog light height. Can only go up and down with a Torx wrench but thats OK. The 855s are 50 watts and are almost as bright as the headlights. Can turn on the parking lights and the fogs and not use the headlights unless its really dark.

If you are looking for them to melt the plastic, then just raise them up further!

I guess not using them as airplane searchlights does the trick
Incidentally I used the 889s or 892s from my C5 on my Pontiac Montana which had even lower wattage bulbs but with the same configuration. Got more brightness there too.

Not hard at all just time consuming
Remove about 6 small bolts on each side on the shrouds under the fog lights and move the plastic brake cooling duct to get to the back of the fog lights. Reach up and remove the lamp and cable going to the lamp and replace with an 885 bulb. Replace bulb, brake cooler duct and shoud and bolts then re-aim lights as I indicated above with a Torx driver and in front of something light like a garage door using low beam lights as a guide.

Fog Lamp Bulb Replacement - Front
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the front fascia lower close out panel. Refer to Close Out Panel - Front Bumper Fascia Lower in Bumpers.
3. Release the brake caliper cooling duct from the front fascia and position the duct aside.
4. Disconnect the front fog lamp electrical connector from the fog lamp bulb/socket.
Caution
Halogen bulbs contain gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury:
o Turn off the lamp switch and allow the bulb to cool before changing the bulb.
o Leave the lamp switch OFF until the bulb change is complete.
o Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
o Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
o Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
o Properly dispose of the used bulb.
o Keep halogen bulbs out of the reach of children.
5. Remove the fog lamp bulb/socket from the fog lamp.
6. Rotate the fog lamp bulb/socket counter-clockwise to release it from fog lamp.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the fog lamp bulb/socket to the fog lamp.
2. Rotate the fog lamp bulb/socket clockwise to secure it to the fog lamp.
3. Connect the front fog lamp electrical connector to the fog lamp bulb/socket.
4. Position the brake caliper cooling duct to the front fascia, and press to secure.
5. Install the front fascia lower close out panel. Refer to Close Out Panel - Front Bumper Fascia Lower in Bumpers.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Check and adjust fog lamp aim as necessary. Refer to Fog Lamp Aiming Procedure
