Default Problem with cigarette lighter socket

I need to use the the cigarette lighter socket to plug in an accesory. Problem is it doesn't work. I tried the cigarette lighter and the accesory in the socket and no go. I looked at the fuse #7 and it looks fine. The acces. plug in the consul works and runs my acessory but I would really like the cigarette socket. Any ideas? Not under warrentee so not going to the dealer.
Thanks for any ideas.

Do you a VOM (volt-ohm-milliammeter) ? If you have one, I can help you use it to diagnose the problem. Also, check to see if it is simply unpluged from behind. E-mail me or IM me.

I do not have a vom. How do I get behind it to see if it is pluged in?
Thanks for the reply

I install a shifter today and found mine unplugged from the back. Snap off the cowling around the shifter and feel back of the plug. It a little awkward but you can use a mirror and flashlight to see the plug. Or just remove three screws and two 1omm bolts to pop off the facia. Screws: behind ashtray, next to lighter, and pop off the cover next to the ignition (interior sensor). Two 10mm nuts under the plate, just behind the shifter. There is a black plastic locking pin that had slipped off the lighter. Hope this helps.

123vette456:
I have the same problem. I looked at some other fuses and they were all ok, and the lighter is plugged in correctly. I don't know where else to look. Let me know if you are able to fix and I will do the same if I figure it out.
Thanks.
