Default key fobs not staying programmed

hi,

i have a 2000 hardtop and the key fobs won't stay programmed. every weekend i have to hold down on the lock and unlock buttons on the fob to reactivate the fob but it doesn't last long. sometimes i do this 2 times a night. i've tried to reprogram both fobs using the dash method but that only lasted a couple of days. what's wrong that i could fix?

thanks

I had the same thing happen to my 2000 and started reading about it. It's a poor connection inside the fob that's causing the issue. It's possible to tear it apart and re-solder the loose connection, but it was easier for me to buy new fobs. I haven't had the problem since. GMPartsHouse has them for $61 plus shipping: http://www.gmpartshouse.com/c5partslist.html

The re-solder thing is a valid repair but,,,here is something that I experienced first hand. I had the exact same symptoms.

How old is your battery and or what is the charge state of your battery. If your battery is weak or aged, it will NOT supply the proper voltage to all the C5 computer modules during extreme current loads like (CRANKING)

When you suck 300 amps out of the battery, if the battery is weak, it will allow VOLTAGE to drop LOW. Attach a DC Volt Meter to the battery terminals. During a COLD start, measure the B+ (battery Voltage during the crank cycle. If it drops below 10 VDC,,,your on the verge of causing the modules to shutdown and revert to factory settings. Check to see if your memory functions and (if you have it) HUD settings change after you start the engine.

Did you replace the battery in the remote?

You can also buy factory remotes here
http://www.originalkeyless.com/categ...3?categoryId=6

I was having a problem with my alarm going off sometimes when I opened the door. I noticed that the unlock button on my remote would not consistently unlock both doors unless I pushed it just right. I had to push the button right in the middle, or the door would not unlock. May not have been the problem, but my alarm has not gone off since I started using the other remote.
