Default LS7 clutch need a break in?????

I'm getting ready to get a LS7 clutch installed and was wondering if they need a break in period like aftermarket clutchs. I tried the search but really couldn't find any info. I know they say with the aftermarkets 500 easy miles with a lot of stop and go.

I really didn't think it would since it's OEM, but I'm going to have to make a 800 mile trip before long and was curious if I need to do a break in before I left.

Every clutch needs to be broken in using the method you said. I don't see any issues with your 800mi trip, just keep track of the stop&go miles and add that to your clutch break-in miles.

I just drove mine like normal and it has been fine for the last 30,000 miles.

Of course I drive like a old fart, most of the time.

No different than if you bought a new C6 Z06 and drove it on the same trip. I wouldn't deliberately abuse it of course (high rpm slipping, etc), but there's no need for babying it either.

I've read where the pedal stays just a few inches off the floor at first and then gradually come's up to normal. Did yours do this right after install??

The pedal won't stay near the floor, you'll still have the full amount of pedal travel, but the point that the clutch engaged/disengaged at was very near the floor initially with mine. In fact the first thing I did was start it up and stall the car out in the parking spot, lol. Guess I was too used to the engagement point on the piece of crap SPEC clutch that was replaced where I normally had tons of "slack" in the pedal to let out before the clutch even thought of engaging.

After the 500 mile breakin the engagement point moved up some, that and I presume I got used to it some as well.

The best thing to do is not to do anything like dump the clutch or harsh high RPM shifting until it is settled... just like the others said.

i just installed new 2nd version of Spec 3+ clutch (12") and steel flywheel, new bearings and slave spacer.

And the pedal is very light pressured and it´s point is right above floor very strange driving now.... i´m done whith 100 miles of breakin in, 400 to go.

i used to run the firs version 11" and it was stif as hell and the point was all the way up, just needed to push pedal down a little...

so i´m driving another car here....

I didn't do anything special to break it in. I just drove it like normal without driving it hard.

You should re-align the shifter after you're done though.

I took a 2200+ mile road trip after I did mine and it's been fine every since. You'll be fine.

That's the first time I've ever heard anyone mention anything about the shifter.

Thanks for the link. Although it may be recommended, I'm not sure how important it really is. In the last month I've read hundreds of threads on clutchs here and LS1tech and have never seen this mentioned before. Appreciate info though.
