Default Oil Sender R&R Video no manifold removal.

For those not following the conversation in the General forum. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-oil-gage.html Here is a video proving that the Oil Sender can be replaced without removing the intake manifold. The video sucks, but you get the idea. Took me 10 minutes, and that was trying to film at the same time. I shot it with an Ipod. Buy me an Ipad and I will make a better one.

Glad that worked for you. Two issues:

1) You have no idea what you torqued the sensor to.
2) The sealant was already on the threads of the sensor you installed, teflon tape tape was not required.

I've heard horror stories in regards to after intake removal to install new sensor, that shortly there after the new sensor going bad again.

Seems to me that the only issues are under/over torquing & tefflon tape not being needed. What are the repercussions of adding tape thats not needed & under/over torquing? This seemed too easy!

1) If the torque is that critical to you, you will need to remove the manifold and do it the old way.

2) The tape was added because of the sensor was the one I just removed, and the sealant was removed from a small area.

Obviously, it's critical to GM as well......so I guess I don't feel that bad.

Thanks for taking the time to show us. You REALLY should have someone hold the camera while you do the install!
Also, with the money that would've been spent on an ipad, you could have a laptop (not a Macbook of course) AND video camera.

Touche.. There is a torque value assigned, but this is from the same engineers that designed the failed sender you are replacing, not to mention the great Column Lock. I believe the sender calls for 15 lbs torque. I know this won't sit well with some, but I will wing it and get it real close. I wonder how many GM Techs break out the torque wrench for 15 lbs on an oil sender?

The is a good option especially if you can get the relocation line in there.

You're right. The LS1 is poorly designed, so it makes no sense to listen to the engineering recommendations.

Good job on finding a creative way to replace the sensor. As far as having complete disregard for torque specs and procedure, you'll have to sell that to someone who has a little less experience than me...........good news is, you'll get plenty of buy in..from the "short cut kings" on this forum.......

It looked as though the sensor had a gasket, so wondering why any thread sealant at all?

Put the sealant on it because I had just pulled it out the sensor for the demonstration. If it is a new sensor you won't need the sealant.

That's a good question. I'm wondering if the goo on the threads is acting sort of like "lock-tite" and not really a sealer. The metal gasket should seal just fine without additional thread sealer.

I,for one, disagree with the statement that the LS1 is poorly designed!!!!
