shift knob removal

Re: shift **** removal (rick g)
Carefully pry up on the shift pattern plate with a small flat-head screwdriver. This reveals that PITA little silver key that you have to remove. I used a thicker flat-head screwdriver to pry up on it. You may want to put a soft towel between the screwdriver and the **** to keep it from getting messed up. Work at it for a while and that key will work it's way up. You can also try using a set of vise grips to grab ahold of it and pull it straight up. *That way didn't work for me but does for others) Good luck!

Re: shift **** removal (rick g)
Basically you (carefully)pop the shift pattern off the top of the **** with a screwdriver. With either a screwdriver or vice grips, pull the bolt out of the top and remove the ****. See link below, it gives full shifter install instructions but it also includes instructions on removing the shift ****.

There was no way for me to get my pin out using any number or type of screwdrivers! In case this happens to you, see this thread

:smash:
I finally got mine out using narrow tipped vise grips, put a screwdriver through the handle, and pounded up with a hammer.
Good luck!

I did mine by clamping a pair of vise grips to the key, placing a big sturdy object on top of the shift **** next to it (to protect the leather) And then levering it out.

I pryed the shift pattern plate up with a small screwdriver, clamped a pair of vice grips on the key, then used a hammer and gently tapped up on the side of the vice grips to get the pin out. Worked easily - tip was from Ken King when I installed his shift ****.
