Pennzoil Synchomesh
Anybody try the Pennzoil Synchomesh in their 6 speed manuals? Getting ready to change mine out and I hear this will make um shift buttery smooth.

Heard good things about this stuff...supposedly identical to the GM brand Synchromesh, but less pricey. I decided to go full synthetic and opted for RP Synchromax, and will most likely try Amsoil on my next oil change. I think you'll be happy with the Pennzoil though.

I used the Penzoil Synchromesh. Shifts nice and smooth. I didn't have any issues prior to the change, so I can't really tell you if there was a huge improvement or just my mind playing tricks, but it did seem to smooth out a bit.

I was thinking Redline but I heard this is the lube to use for friskier driving. I store in the winter so it being a little thicker shouldn't matter. Think I will go with it and change it before I put it to bed for the winter.

Have Redline D4ATF in my 2000 C5 for 10yrs. Good stuff.
In my 70 with a 5 speed Tremac , Keisler recommended Penzoil in liu of GM Synchro as it is just as good and cheaper. GM is not carried by many dealers. Ran the GM for 1K miles then Penzoil.

According to a friend who is an engineer at Tremec, the Syncromesh was specifically designed for this transmission. I haven't tried it yet but plan on doing it in the near future.

I just got back from the Frankenmuth MI auto show and Tremec had a booth set up and I asked him about the best oil to put in their transmissions. He said that the Penzoil Syncromesh is the best. The GM Syncromesh is the same thing but costs twice as much. I asked about synthetic lubes and he said that ALL OF THEM will screw up the syncro's and after awhile you will get hard shifting.

Transmission synchros are like limited slip diffs, they requre the "right" amount of friction. Too much friction and they don't work right, and too little friction and they don't work right. Same thing about the life, too little friction and the can cause excessive wear.

Put the Syncromesh in this afternoon. I can't believe how black the Dex III was with only 9000 miles on it. Took it for a quick spin around the block and shifts seem about the same, maybe a little smoother, but it seems a little less noisy too. Maybe after a few more miles I will notice a bigger difference.

I forgot to add that I bought a $8.50 1 Gal sprayer at Lowe's and it worked great for filling the transmission. Also why does the 6 speed have a temp sensor but no readout? If the trans gets too hot do you get a warning message on the DIC???????

+1 for Synchromesh. Just changed it tonight from Redline D4L ATF. The shift effort was getting exceptionally high with my B&M Ripper. The Pennzoil Synchromesh made a noticeable improvement.
