'02 C5 Oil pressure is 129?
I found out what was involved in putting an auto trans in a ZO6, so now, while I think of it I have another question. I have an '02 C5, too, and as soon as I turn the key on the oil pressure gauge goes straight to the max. If I look at the oil pressure in the DIC, it says it is the oil pressure is 129. I'm wondering if it the sensor is bad or if the wiring connector may be off or loose, but I can't remember whether the voltage is higher or lower when the oil pressure increases. I could be completely wrong in my thinking. I don't know. Anybody with an idea, just jump right in.
Thanks
Thanks

Turn on the key but leave the engine off. If it goes all the way up and stays there, your sender unit is done. Common failure item and you'll need to replace it.

Thanks. I thought it was probably the sending unit, but taking abunch of parts off just to replace the sending unit doesn't seem like a lot of fun. Thanks GM.

Sounds like the oil pressure sensor went bad and needs to be replaced. If the oil pressure is maxed out without the engine running then thats the problem. It's located behind the intake manifold and if you do a search on this forum you will find a few different methods of getting to it, not a big deal to replace just make sure that the replacment you buy has a brass base and not the aluminium. The brass ones are more reliable. Good luck bro!

It only takes about 15-20 minutes to get the intake off and you'll need two pieces of tape for the rear intake manifold bolts. I don't remember the torque values for those bolts this second but have them ready when you bolt it back up. Also the torque value for the new sender should not be exceeded and I apologize that I don't know that value either but many others in here will know it.

I replaced my sender about a month or so ago with a BWD sensor from Advance with the brass base and it's working good. I did the cut method through the cowel under the windshield and it was very simple and used a good sealant to replace the panel I cut. Total time was about an hour from start to finish and I now have an access panel that can be easily removed and replaced should this happen again. whichever way you decide to do the job either buy or borrow a torque wrench, the torque values are very important if you want your new sensor to last.
