Default A/C Blowing Hot Air on Passenger side

The A/C blows cold on the driver side, but the passenger side blows hot air. There are no codes. Im thinking the actuator need replacing. Whats the best way to go about this?

A bad actuator throws a code, you may want to get a set of gauges and check high and low side levels. A clogged orifice will also cause similar problems, which requires the system to be evacuated and recharged. I would try that before I removed dash.

I think you have an actuator problem, my opinion. If its low on freon, it usually blows warm on the drivers side, not the passanger side. The passenger side is the first to get cold. Even though you have no codes, have you tried any of the different ways to reset the actuators? Probably worth a try, and its free. And, if its blowing cold on the drivers side, its not a clog, or you would get warm on both sides.

Re-Calibrating Actuators
Use the following steps to perform the calibration update:

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Remove the battery positive voltage circuit fuse of the HVAC Control Module (fuse #27). This fuse is located in the passenger's side floor board area.

Important
The module memory will not clear if the battery positive voltage circuit fuse is installed in less than 60 seconds.

3. Wait 60 seconds.
4. Install the fuse.

Thanks Lou, I'll give that a try tonight when I get home from work.

Im not sure if read this right, but is it true that many of the problems with actuators have been corrected in 2001(that's what I have)?

^ Fuse? I didn't see any fuse in that link just the write up on that line that corrodes over time.

Ok, tried this, and still blowing hot air from the passenger side. Im not real handy, so Im trying to avoid Chicago's advice until I've exhausted all of the easier possibilities.....

That referenced post deals with "air coming out of all vents on the Ac or Heat". That vacuum line has nothing to do with controlling the temperature.

If you have not already check your freon level. Mine was only blowing cold on the passenger side, we checked the freon and it was low. Added freon and the ac is blowing cold on both sides now. I'm sure with the age of the car I have a small leak some where...

Hope this helps.

True, except his is the reverse, blowing cold on drivers side, but not passenger. Different issue?
To be sure Ricknyc23, 1) check for codes (I think you said you had none, how did you check?), 2) put some gauges on it and check the AC, or have someone else do it. After this, if all is ok. You probably have an actuator issue on the passenger side.

Thanks guys for all the advice. I have a bad feeling that this is an actuator problem. This is looking more and more like a sizable repair bill....

Is there any way to reach the passneger side actuator without removing the dash? I want to see if I can manually move the door to the cold side.
