OK, first thing is to gather some dimensions. Here is what I could find.

C6Z51 front - 340mm diameter x 32mm thick
C6Z51 rear - 330mm diameter x 26mm thick
C5 front - 325mm diameter x 32mm thick x 38mm offset
C5 rear - 305mm diamter x 26mm thick x 42mm offset

Offset is measured from the mounting face (the surface that sits against the hub) to the rear rotor surface.

So, the first issue is the diameter. I would believe the C5 brackets would clear the C6Z51 rear rotors. If not, then the C6Z51 front brackets would be required. Check the clearance of the stock C5 front brake calipers and brackets to see if there is 5mm of clearance.

Secondly is the thickness and offset. I'm guessing, but most likely the C6Z51 rear rotor is the same offset as the C5 rear. So, lets run some numbers.

C5 front;
Front surface is 6mm behind hub.
Rear surface is 38mm behind hub.
Center of rotor is 22mm behind hub.

C6Z51 rear;
Front surface is 16mm behind hub.
Rear surface is 42mm behind hub.
Center of rotor is 29mm behind hub.

So, ideally you would shave 7mm off of the bracket where it bolts to the spindle upright so that the caliper is still centered over the rotor. 7mm might not be necessary but I would suspect some shaving is required otherwise the bracket likely hits the back face of the rotor. Something like 4mm is likely the minimum necessary to move the bracket the same amount as the back face of the rotor moved.

I hope this helps clear up this issue.

Peter

Any chance you can find that kind of info on the C6Z system? I plan on trying to those all the way around

No, I won't be searching for C6Z06 brake information. Just do forum searches and you'll likely find the dimensions you need.

That would yield a larger front rotor and a larger rear rotor than the stock C5 had and would seem to be a more natural fit. You would just have twin piston rear calipers instead of single piston calipers and a larger brake pad, but rotor sizes would be proportional rather than a larger rear rotor than front rotor....which seems a little weird to me....even if it works fine..... My 2 cents.
Will a C6Z51 front rotor fit inside a C5 17'' wheel?

OK, I found some more info on who has done this successfully in the past.

E.C.P did this in 2008.

check out post #12 in this link

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...-brackets.html

Lets try and contact him and see if he will share his procedure with us. Maybe he can build us some kits, if he is willing.

HiVoltge,

Is the shop that did this mod for you still in business?

If so, I would like to contact them.

FYI, the one time I talked to him he wouldn't tell me what to do.

Manny works out of a 1.5 car garage at his house. I also thought he got banned here. In the Ontario forum, a thread with pics from a car show which included just the pic of his car as the winner was recently deleted. In fact, I'm going to save what I wrote now because I have fears this thread may disappear.

OK guys, here is the latest info I have.

The two examples of this mod shown in this thread were done by the same person.
This shop is still in business and can provide you with the necessary hardware to do this mod.
Once you have these custom components, it is all bolt on.

For me though, it is a no go. You need 19" wheels minimum to clear the bigger calipers.
My wheels and tires are stock sizes and are almost brand new. I do not want to upgrade them right now.

All those who are interested can PM me for the info.

Ok I am then confused. If we are talking about using the stock C5 front caliper, which clears the 17" wheel on the front of a stock C5, why would you need a 19" wheel to clear that same caliper in the rear on an 18" wheel that is stock on a C5? What am I missing? Is there another factor? I know the rotor would be the same if you used the stock front C5 rotor at 12.8" and only .2 larger (13.0") if you used the C6 Z51 rear rotor to still have the E-brake. Can you explain further? Thanks.

I asked this same question. I was told it would not fit an 18" wheel. If you look at the pictures (19") it seems that there is plenty of clearance even with an 18" wheel.

Has anyone done this mod with an 18" wheel?

Anymore info on this upgrade? I just purchased the c5 front calipers. Going to get c6 z51 rear rotors so I can keep my E brake. What bracket is needed to mount the caliper?
