Default How to gut high-flow cats?

Yes I have searched.....I'm looking to get more sound out of my system, and I have XS-power longtube headers with high-flow cats and B&B bullets.

I just need it a bit louder to satisfy my V8 hunger Some guys recommended me to get the SLP loudmouths, but I don't know if they will sound as good as the bullets

I will say that the Slp's sound really good imo with 100% straight pipes, as I had lg super pro long tubes with o-road x-pipe and the Slp Lm1's. I actually got several compliments from die hard mustang guys however I just installed z06 ti's and put my Slp's up for sale because I was worried about cops but Im thinking I may have made a mistake as its seems to be too quiet now. Heck even my girlfriend liked it better before... but anyways I would think that the two systems would sound about the same if you gutted the cats with your current system or switched to the SLp system.

Idky you'd gut a high flow cat. Just cut it out and put a pipe in place.

I have Borla's straight pipes and LT's and it's still not loud enough for me lol

Good luck

Hey Narek,
I really would not get rid of the cats or hollow them out. Your car is going to smell and at stop lights will get very bad. I am running without them and regret it every second driving the car. I wish I could find a Cat that would not get fried after a little while.
If you want to see how bad it is you are welcome to go for a drive in my car.

My car doesnt smell all that bad at all after it gets warmed up, yea sure you can smell it a little bit when you back it out of the garage but its no worse than an old muscle car. I really dont smell it at all after it gets up to operating temp though. Just my experience though.

Same here. I'm running stock manifolds with no cats and Bassani mufflers. Sounds great! When I first crank it up and back it out of the garage, you can smell it but it isn't that bad. Once it gets warm you can't smell it any more even when sitting at a red light. The key is to get a proper tune after removing the cats.

I would just avertise for a trade with someone who ordered the XSPower headers with the off road Xpipe (no cats) on the C5 For Sale?Trade Forum.

You should find that Xpipe to be louder without spending any money.

I paid $150 more for the catted system and do not regret it as I don't like the odor of the noncatted version.

Weelll somehow he's getting by with long tubes

Thanks for the replies guys...

my car smells bad as it is...so I could care less if it was catless because it sure smells like the cats aint doing s*** now I just wish the car was a bit louder since the non-catted version of XS has resonators and is as loud as mine now.

btw...I have no problem with smog and dont need to swap back anything PM me if youre curious

You get way more smell from a positive overlap cam, than you do from running w/o cats. Simplest thing, if they're clamped, take them off, and beat the metal matrix out. Should fold up, and you can cram it out the end. Not really much to the guts of a HF cat.

If you really just must do it then take a piece of pipe and beat the centers out of them.

Please dont do it, i had a TSP V2 cam and heads, i replaced Hi flow cats but by straight pipes (still my Ti mufflers in place), sure it sounds louder than before and gas smelly however to my surprise lost power under 50-60 mph and yepper it pulls hard up top though.

Cats going back soon.

Nope, just as long as the parts that replaced the factory ones do the same job you are ok.

The stuff used in cats isn't that hard. My dad used a broom stick handle to break it out. Make sure you blow all the material out before you bolt back to your mufflers.
