Default Royal Purple oil change now engine is louder

I will be changing back to Mobil 1. I used Royal Purple 5W30 and a Royal Purple oil filter and my engine is a bit louder now. You can really hear it under the car and at WOT with the windows up. My engine never made the noises before and first thing I will do when I wake up is go back to Mobil 1.

Huh, the guys on horsepower T.V. never mentioned anything about more noise.

Why would anyone think that something called Royal Purple would be better than an oil thats been around for 100 years, tested, improved many times, billions of dollars behind them, etc, etc. Makes me crazy! (more crazy?) I can't stand the hype behind this crap and Amsoil, and the rest.

probably because they went from group iv stock to group iii stock a few years ago. either that or because there are more internet sites than this ones and they say mobil is average at best.

I find this VERY hard to believe. Putting all their advertising hype aside, RP oils are still premium quality products.

What was your oil pressure with the RP oil and filter?

This is interesting. I just used RP for the first time and my engine is quieter.

Royal Purple is just another expensive "boutique" oil. It is no better or worse than Mobil1, the oil that Chevrolet engineers recommend for your car.

The only difference is the color of the can and the amount of money that isn't in your wallet.

The "noise" you hear is your imagination.

Guys im no engineer. I got RP for free from one of my vendors so I decided to give it a try. I put Mobil 1 back in and the car is fine now. The noise was pretty loud at WOT. There was alot of clacking and I dont know if this oil had to settle in and the clacking would have went away but im not risking it.

Can't explain what the difference would be, but you certainly know how your engine should sound. If you're happy with Mobil 1, just stick with it.

If there was one oil that was so much better than all the others and proved beyond a doubt it was the best then that would be what everyone would be running in their cars. Fact is there isn't one that is so far superior over all the others to the point every single person would be using it and no other oil. Use whats floats yer boat and makes you happy.

Sounds like you missed a quart or two and it started knocking...........Or maybe it wasn't oil you got from a vendor.,,,,,,,, Hmmmm a dirty trick to get you to keep ordering their stuff.

I considered using RP in my Vette, works great in the Harley, but after discussions on this forum I decided to stay with what was prescribed by the engineers at GM. I am an Engineer and the Engineers handbook always leads us to error on the side of caution. Just my 2 cents!

The newest version of RP 5w30 does'nt meet spec 4718M ,so why would you use it on an engine that requires that spec?

There are definitely far better oils than Mobile 1 available. The issue is most people will not pay $15 to $20 a quart to protect their $00K engine. My experience and research tells me that you really have four choices of oil in a stock or heavliy modified ls street engine - Joe Gibbs, Amsoil, Royal Purple HPS or XPR, or Torco the most important feature in any oil is 'Shear Strength'. My recommendation is call the tech support line at each company and find out exactly which oil and viscocity makes most sense for your application - no sense in guessing.

For those who think Mobil 1 is a great choice check out this oil test featured in a magazine from Australia - http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf
