Default Resleaving an LS1 Block

I have a spare LS1 block. I was thinking about resleaving it to 4.12 if possible. How much would it cost to resleave this block. Or would it be better to buy an LS3 or LS7 block?

I personally would not mess with trying to increase the LS1 for a number of reasons. If you are looking to increase cubes on the cheap some folks will pickup a used cast iron block truck engine to mod. If there is more money in the pocket book going to LS3 would be a good choice as well, understanding there are other items that would be needed, like a 24x to 58x crankshaft encoder, knock system, ....

Contact Steve at R.E.D. And he will lead you in the right direction. He's probably the only person I'd let sleeve a block for me.

An aluminum LS2 or 5.3 block will allow a Darton dry sleeve. The LS1/LS6 will be a wet sleeve IIRC.. You can find a 5.3 block cheap nowadays.

I would choose a re-sleeved aluminum block vs an LS3 or iron block because the new sleeves are longer and provide more piston skirt support if you use a longer stroke crankshaft. I haven't done price comparisons yet between sleeving vs a new LS3block, but I think they are pretty close. I would like to build a 427 based off a sleeved LS1 for my '99.

You might check these guys out. They are local to me and my engine guy speaks well of them. (They compete against each other in late model stock car racing) I haven't personally done any work with them.
