Default Brake line re-routing

I am replacing the hard brake lines on my C5, and the rear lines have a junction above the transmission, and are then routed over top of the trans/differential, and back under the axles to the lines in the front of the wheel wells. I am just curious as to why they don't come straight off of the junction to the wheel wells without wrapping the transmission. I don't see any points where suspension parts would interfere. It is just an interesting observation that would avoid all of the convoluted bending necessary for the current routing.

Its done that way so you can remove the drive line with out having to bend and or remove those lines.
