Repair Kit
Isn't the shifter repair kit for the auto trans that is sold on many aftermarket sites like CorvetteMods (#11312) or CorvetteDepot (3236469) amongst others, the answer to your melted indicator .... yes and of course swapping to an LED lamp ?

Just finished the trans indicator mod in my '04 vert.....bought the low cost kit from Vettelights. Simple easy job if you can call any simple easy job on your vette....simple easy! However in my case it was simple easy...about 30 minutes and if I had to do it a second time, maybe 15 minutes. The indicator cover popped right off without damage with a couple of small flat head screwdrivers gently prying from 7:00-6:00-5:00 positions. Then removing the white/clear waveguide using the same small screwdriver method, same positions as the indicator cover....then gently lifting at 6:00 sliding rearward under the red indicator so as to not damage the indicator. Pretty obvious once you see it. The bulb is then accessible in the narrow space below and I used the "duct tape" method of removing it. Guess I was lucky as nothing was melted. The old white/clear waveguide was a little foggy and was replaced with the new one in the kit. Did not need to use the new red indicator in the kit as the original was perfect. The only modification, if you can call it that, was the tiny female notches at both ends of the new waveguide in the kit...they were too small to fit the male end fittings of the case. Again, obvious once you see it. Used a razor blade and gently opened the tiny female notches to match those of the original waveguide. Everything fit back together perfectly and noted how bright the PND21 indicator became! Well worth the effort....and do it before more heat damage makes the job more difficult.
