Default Service tire mon. sys

I have read a bunch of articles with search, but mine is different. Today out of the blue on a drive, I get this warning, and it is on all four tires. They show xxxx on front and rear. It seams rare that all four batteries would go out at the same time. I added air to all four tires and that did not help. I drove the car for twenty minutes after adding air, and that did not help. Also something weird,,,, when I got out of the car, and went to the rear, I saw the white lights on around the license plate. I then cycled the light switch, and the lights were off when I looked again.

This could be totally non related to the tpms problem, but it was weird.

Anyway,,,any suggestions what how to test the monitor? And were it is located?

Thanks

I think I'd disconnected the battery for a few minutes, clean the terminal connections, reconnect and then see what that does for the situation. Then drive it and see if the situation re-occurs. Then check to see if you have any DIC codes present

Ok,,, I will try that. I did check codes and they were:

c2100
c2105
c2110
c2115

all are sensor malfunction codes, for all four wheels.

Thanks

I will post what I find out tomorrow.

Were there any codes that begin with a U???? If so what is it?

Any other codes????
Our C5 is a 2002. No codes with a U. No other codes. Yes the remote door locks work.
About two months ago, I took off the run flats and purchased a set of used 2001 C5 wheels with sensors. I also purchased a set of Hankook V12 tires and installed them on the car. The original run flats and wheels are in the garage. For the two months that I have had the newly purchased wheels and tires, the indicated pressure on all four tires was about normal.
What I could do, is to remove two of the Hankook tires and wheels, and put back on the run flats, and see if they show a reading. If they still show xxxxx, then it would indicate that it was a problem elsewhere and not in the wheel sensors. Having all four sensors quit at the same time is not likely, but not impossible.

No I did not retrain the sensors. I did not know it was necessary, or possible.
The system seemed to work fine, at least for the first two months.
I will give the retraining technique a try.

Thanks

How much is the magnet tool for the retraining, is it a dealer only part? this summer I may be upgrading tires, my 04' has apporx 95k on the car, how long do tire sensors last, and finally would it be a good idea to replace my originals...

Go to Radio Shack and buy a pack of 4 magnets with holes in the center - ~1 1/4" OD. A couple bucks.

Alternatively, some use an old speaker magnet.

Re: the OP. Wonder if the old sensors being in the garage (assuming they're stored somewhat close to the car) were sending enough signal to "fool" the system.

I just tried to retrain the sensors. Horn would not honk. Sensors would not reset. At least all trouble codes are cleared. Toggling through the gauges, show both front and rear as xxxxx.

Default XXX Tire Pressure

Mine did the same thing 15 mintues and 10 really hard miles from the dealership. I went back, they re-learned the sensors, and thats all it was.

I got the same XXX code on all 4 tires. The dealer said it happens once in a while.

Is it possible to turn off the tire pressure monitoring system using HP tuners?

HP Tuners deals with the PCM. To eliminate the TPMS you need access to the BCM and the TECH II is the only tool I know of that can access the BCM.

That's great info, but bad news.
Mine is a 99.
Thank you though.

I placed the magnet over the sensor, and it is a very strong magnet. Still no horn. What does the receiver that is in the trunk above the drivers side rear wheel cost? What do they call it? Is it easy to replace? Is there a fuse that could be blown?

Thanks again for your help.

It's called an RFA module and if your remote door fob works, it's probably good. You need to double check that you're following the correct steps and getting the magnet in the correct position to activate the sensor. Did you do what 8vette7 suggested and try training another wheel first instead of the lf? That would check to see if you have a bad lf sensor.

Ok,,, I will get one of the original wheels and try it.
No I did not get a chance to try and retrain any other wheel besides the left front. I will do the left rear along with trying to do the original left front. That makes sense that if the original wheel will not retrain, then it must be the RFA Module.
Thank you all for your help. I will post what I find out tomorrow.
Yes I put the strong magnet on the wheel above where the sensor would be. Again I only did this on the left front wheel. Tomorrow I will try it on the others, and one or two original wheels. This should narrow down the problem.
You guys sure know your stuff.
Thank you all.

Well,,, the mystery is solved. I placed the original tire and wheel next to the right rear tire and ran the program. The horn honked and the system went to the right front tire. It would not honk. Soooooo I guess all four wheel sensors went out at the same time.

Thanks for all your help...

P.S. where is a good place to buy replacement sensors?

Also I believe that Tire Rack caries the sensors but you probably should call and talk to them.

Thanks,,, I have four sensors, and "nuts" (they recommended getting the nuts also) on the way.

Thanks again.

How about training them before they are installed...

And thanks again for all your help.

I am going to purchase some batteries and give it a try to replace the batteries of the sensors that I remove. It will only cost about $20 for the batteries. That way, when my other sensors on the run flats go bad, I will have replacements on hand. I called Digi-key, and they sell them for $3.68 each. Only problem is that they charge $15 shipping... Still a good deal. I am going to check and see if I can purchase the batteries locally. Not sure where though.
