Default Radiator drain plug problem.

I had a leaking water pump that I replaced. No problem with that but the radiator drain plug gave me some trouble. Anyway I finally got it off with the 1/4" extension, I turned it to much I guess and the drain plug hole has a slight crack. Hopefully I want have to replace the radiator.

Can I take the existing plug out and install another one? The crack at the neck concerns me the most. Is their a radiator repair kit for this problem?

Just did the same thing. You can get a new plug at Napa store and probably others. Not a problem. Only a quarter turn to lock in place. The drain plug hole has a small slot. the new plug has a small steel shaft which slides into the slot. When you turned it too much you sheared the steel shaft off the old plug. That is my best guess at what happen based on my experience with this.

I also learned this lesson the hard way, just 1/4 turn.

NAPA has replacement plugs for $4-5 that you can turn by hand, no 1/4 inch square drive needed.

Yes that is what happen, I really didn't notice the slit when I let the fluid out. The new drain plug from O'riley's did the trick. Thanks.

Think I saw them at PepBoys and Advance in the HELP section (the drain plug not the needle nose pliers)
