Default Step by step to powder coat brakes?

Any information out there discussing the process of removing brake calipers and related wheel parts to have powder coated. Also the reinstall of the brake lines .

I know this doesn't help you at the moment, but I'll be doing this within the next 2 weeks.

I can take pics of the process for a write up if someone hasn't done so already.

I have painted calipers on 2 cars with good luck. I believe in the kits over just the spray
paint. the kits come with 2 part epoxy that sticks well with a nice finish. But the powder coating look nice also . Wanted to know how much work is involved in the removal of brake lines ect.

I'll let you know shortly, I bought the kit for about $30 not sure whatis in the box, but I'm not going to take off the brake lines .Ron

WHATEVER you do, plug the brake lines if you remove the calipers, you do NOT want the system to drain completely.

Paint them on the car, just unbolt them from the steering knuckle.

I don't know how much professional powdercoating costs but I picked up a brand new set of OEM red Z06 calipers on Ebay for 400 bucks. I'm keeping my original calipers as spares. I will probably try my hand at polishing them and seeing how they turn out.

It's not rocket science, probably just need new crush washers and something to plug the lines with so you don't run the system dry. If you empty the system you'll need a trip to the dealer!

Why not get a paint kit at autozone, you can just unlot the calipers like doing a brake job (good time for new pads) and paint them on the car. That ceramic paint is nice and wears quite well.

Sounds good. I have painted calipers before with good luck and did not remove from the car. The powder coat tho seems like a better finish. I know someone that does powder coating. So I thought I might try the powder coat this time.

A little fever Greg lol. What color do the calipers come stock? Flat black,gloss black.? I do like the stock stuff,but the after market wheels sure look nice.

Stock color is gray.
I did mine with duplicolor cast iron gray and clear engine paint.
I guess I'll find out how durable they are.
I didn't like the Z06 Red on my Yellow car.



It takes the following tools to remove the calipers:
15mm box wrench (caliper bolts x 2)
13mm box wrench (banjo fitting)
13mm flare wrench (brake hard line to flex line)
3/16 vacuum line cap (to cap the hard line)
Channel lock pliers (to remove the frame clip)

I completely disassembled the calipers and sand blasted them clean. They were a butt ugly brush on yellow.

You fon't need to disassemble if cleaning and painting only.
