LS7 Lifters question
I'm about to re-install the heads back on my car, but before I did, I ordered new LS2 lifter trays to replace my ls1/ls6 units and I was wondering if I should replace my LS7 lifters as well or reuse them. They currently have about 50k miles on them with no signs of wear.
What do you guys think, reuse or should I get new ones?

I just found time to do a forum search and there have been some credible sources that have said to reuse them.
- "Roller lifters "If in good condition" can be reused in any location without issue. If there not cracked galded, pitted, damaged,,,,you can use them.
Carefully examine them "use a magnifying glass to check for damage" if there fine,,,use them."
- "Roller lifters are different animals than the old style lifters.Since there is no longer a tamper in the cam lobes to rotate the lifters,if they look unblemished you should be good to go! "
- "Every part that moves developes wear patterns. Change the position of the used part to a different surface and traditionally accelerated wear incurres. Its been accepted that cams and components stay as a set so as to not promote accelerated wear.
Our opinion is that , yes you can physically install the lifters but its not recommended."
- "If a set of roller lifters has developed a wear pattern, there is something wrong. With normal operation and use a set of roller lifters can be reused with no problems. "
- "What he said. Rollers can be reused if undamaged, flat tappet lifters should never, never be reused with a new cam. "
- "If it were me, I would replace the lifters. No, it is not neccessary with rollers, but the LS7 lifters are really good. Although, given choices, if your lifters are still good"
I going to reuse them.

Ok, this is an old thread, but a I have a question about the LS2 lifter trays. I will be getting them simply because everyone uses them, and it must be for a reason.
While searching for that reason I found that the guys on LS1 tech pretty much unanimously agree that there is no benefit over an LS1/LS6 lifter tray. They even found that the LS2 trays lack a few ribs that the LS1/6 trays have making the LS1/6 seem stronger...
Looking for thoughts on this and proof that LS2 trays are the ticket for success. I will be using the LS7 lifters as well and was also wondering why they are better...

LS7 Lifters: 17122490 (part number for individual lifter) - 12499225 is part number for a set of 17122490 lifters.
LS2/7 trays: 12595365

I see, so the newer lifters have more travel and that is beneficial in some ways.. probably relieves valve train stress. I will be going with LS7 lifters and LS2 trays. Its just good to know why one should use them.
