Default Transmission Leak/Blow Back

On my 03 AE with auto I noticed an oily like smell after driving a long distance. The blow back was on the back panel and a small drip was on the garage floor. Car has about 6,500 miles (as new) and I am wondering if it needs to be checked by a mechanic. Thanks.............

so is this a major deal? meaning expensive?

also given the age (9 years) and even with the low mileage, should the transmission be serviced (fluid & filter)?

The diff should be looked at asap because they dont hold that much fluid to start with. As for the trans, its is time for that to be serviced as well. There was a GM TSB about the leaky side cover, My friend had his 2003 Z06 fixed under it, but that was a few yrs ago so it might be past

Thanks bsalie99 for the info. Took car to dealership and sure enough the left diff plate was leaking. Given the repair cost (just south of $500). they must have had to pull the cradle. Could this this leak be the result of not being driven for long periods of time?
