Default C1288 h

Background:About a month about the Dealer diagnosed my EBCM as bad. They wanted HUGE sums of money to replace it. I made this thread because ABSfixer wasn't responding:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...-recently.html
Just as 8VETTE7 suggested, ABSfixer deemed my EBCM unrepairable. I purchased a rebuilt EBCM from Module Masters for $210. Installed and all my codes seemed to go away until about 6 miles later when I turned around in a cul de sac.

Now:
Every time I turn my steering wheel >90 degrees I get code C1288 the TC/H lamp and Service Active Handling/Service Vehicle Soon. Then when I turn the car off the Traction Control/Handling Lamp and Service Active Hndlg messages go away and the code becomes a history code.

I found a TSB (post 9 on this link: http://www.z06vette.com/forums/f5/code-c1288-21790/ ) that my car's VIN is affected by.

Do the C5 experts think that my EBCM ("ABS Module" per the TSB) needs to be reprogrammed per the TSB?

It could also be the Steering Wheel Position Sensor, however, I haven't had any SWPS codes since my alignment was redone (I've never seen C1288 until now) and I don't think the EBCM install would break the SWPS.

The code C1288 is the SWPS. I just had to replace mine last year on my 04. It cost about $65.00 at www.gmpartshouse.com it takes 2.5 to 3 hours to replace. There is a write up about how to do this on this forum. I didn't want to mess with the airbag so I had my corvette mechanic friend replace it for me.

Is that (replace the SWPS) the common consensus then? I'm just thinking that since there was a TSB to reprogram the EBCM and I put a different EBCM in that maybe I need to have the reprogramming done again. Up to this point I had not ever heard of the EBCM needing to be reprogrammed. Anyone know if the program reference in the TSB is actually stored in the EBCM or some other computer onboard?

The code is (h) "history". Delete it and see if it comes back, then go from there.

Correct, the code is a History code but it comes back EVERY drive. In the original post I said whenever I turn >90 degrees but I don't think that's quite exact. Driving to work today the code didn't set until I had turned the steering wheel ~180 degrees.

So, to clarify, the code is actually C1288 C if I check it immediately after it sets while the engine is still running. If I check the DIC right after I turn off the engine, then the code is C1288 H. If I do NOT clear the code and then go for another drive, then the code is C1288 H C if I check it immediately after it sets and while the engine is still running.

If it keeps coming back like it is, then for sure the SWPS is gone. After we changed mine, everthing is back to normal. It was kind of scarry having the car pull to the left for no reason when I was over 2400 miles from home the first time it did it. Found out if I turned off the TC and just drove with out it, it would drive ok but without the TC or AH there.

I unplugged and plugged in the SWPS before driving to work this evening. Made it half way there before C1288 set and then made it all the way home tonight without the code. I'm crossing my fingers tonight that the connector was just loose or something.

Has anyone ever heard of the EBCM needing programmed when a new/rebuilt EBCM is installed? I have an appointment in a few weeks with the Stealership to connect the scan tool and see what ABS Module DE Calibration # I have, per the TSB I linked to. If anyone thinks that is throwing away $$, please let me know. Luckily I have a few weeks till the appointmeint so I can see if the problem has gone away....
