Default Run Flats vs None run flats

Ok , so here is my question ,?? cars like the Z06 originally came with run flat tires , the rims for these cars were designed to use run flat tires ,
So ? is it safe to replace the run flat tires on these rims, with none run flat tires ? I have been told the bead of the rim is slightly different ? and that the none run flat tires to not properly fit the run flat rim ?
looking for some good feedback ???

You are mistaken.....C5 ZO6's did not have run flats for weight savings.

1st, the Z06 came with conventional tires, non-runflat.

My 2000 came with runflats and I've now been running conventional tires for 80K+ miles with absolutely zero (0) issues.

YMMV

I have read many of the run flat threads , but they really only discuss the tire ? not the rims ?

I absolutely LOVE my non-runflat tires! I switched over about 6 weeks ago. AMAZING upgrade.

When I changed the tires, I did notice the bead and sidewall of the runflat tires were much stiffer than the conventional tires. The part of the bead that actually contacts the wheel and seats in the bead groove is the same dimension on both tires.

There is nothing special about the rims to only allow one type of tire. Either conventional or run flat tires will work on the same rims.

Just match the size of the tire to the rim it is going on.

Yep, no worries running a conventional tire. It is an upgrade to drop the weight and go with a stickier set for even cheaper.

Dump the run-flats and never look back. Your car will thank you for it. Having run-flats on a C5 is like an Olympic sprinter having to run the 100M wearing wooden sandals. It's as simple as that.

Many owners have taken the run flats off and went with non-run flat tires - me included. Much better ride, handling and much less road noise.
