2004 fuel pump

2004 fuel pump
I have the fuel pump out of the left tank on my 04 corvette and broke the small line off at the bottom of the pump (the plastic nipple). The line is only about 1/16 in and I was wondering what is it for and can I use the pump without this line connected or do I need a new pump.

Thanks for the info.
It is the Venturi line. Looks like it keeps fuel in the reservoir to supply the pump at any vehicle's attitude. Looks like I need a new pump or I might be sitting on a hill someday and run out of fuel.
