Default Powerbond = Engine Pro?

I ordered a Powerbond 10% under drive harmonic damper on eB*y and it came in a box marked Engine Pro. Is this the right damper? The part number is correct based on what I saw when I searched, but all the pictures I found show a Powerbond box.

Far as I know Engine Pro is a parts distributer. They probably have a deal to private label the PowerBond balancers. The part number looks to be a PowerBond number. You could call Engine Pro and ask. They have a web site as well.

That's likely the case. The PBs are manufactured in Australia and rely on distributors in the U.S..

Powerbond is a line of balancers produced by Precision Parts. Its possible that Engine pro can sell them under their name as well. It certainly looks like a real powerbond, not a knock off..

Well I called Engine Pro and they said that it is a Powerbond balancer, they just put it in an Engine Pro box. I guess what box it's in depends on the supplier - all the pictures I found searching here had Powerbond boxes, even recent ones.

Even after talking to them I'm still a little concerned that it is a knockoff. Is there any way to tell or should I just go with it? I didn't see any markings indicating a manufacturer, but there is a sticker that says made in Australia. And I suppose if someone were going to the trouble of making a knockoff they'd go ahead and put an SFI 18.1 stamp on it regardless of whether it meets the criteria...

Am I just making too big a deal out of a box?

I would tend to believe them. They have been in business since 1986, they do more than $10 million a year in sales. The unit looks just like my PowerBond balancer. It is installed so I dont know if it has any other markings to identify it as such. Your other alternative if you still feel uncertain is to call PowerBond and ask. Good luck.

I think you are fine. Its not likely that a company would be able to pull off a knock of that looked so good and uses the snap ring design etc, and be able to make it worth it. It looks like a high quality piece, not a cheapo.

PowerBond has numerous balancers and they differ in appearance. Here are the pics from their web site for the model number PB1117

This is what mine looked like, note it is not the under drive pulley.
Their other pulleys vary in look, as in the one Bill posted above.

Its their 18.1 SFI spec dampers that will have the snap ring design. Good dampers from what I've heard. I think it is real and will work fine.

I called the US division of Powerbond and they said it's theirs too. Originally he said it should have a PB stamp on it but when I gave him the part number he said they don't stamp those. In any case it looks like it's a Powerbond. Thanks for the input and the contact info!

Take advantage of the keyway and pin your crank if you haven't done so already. It's easy to do and now would be the ideal time to do it.
