The absolute best oil out there is Amsoil. Problem is, it's $6.00 per quart and higher depending on who's selling it.

The new Mobil One they have out now is very similar to the old Mobil One that you could buy when it first came out. There was a post on here a month or two ago about the new Mobil One VS the old. For a mostly stock car, it's pretty tough to beat the price and quality of Mobil One.

I use Delco filters, and Mobil 1, 10W-30 oil in both the 99 and 65 Corvettes.

I use Mobil 1 tri synthetic in all my vehicles. Just spoke with a guy who bought an 89 Mustang LX off of me last year. He put heads and cam in the car and said the interior looked awesome.

I also use the K & N oil filter. I personally like it very much.

I agree that Amsoil is probably the best, and I currently have and use both the filter (#32) and oil. However, when you factor in cost, availability, quality, and street level performance needs, it is hard to beat Mobil 1 stuff.

Mobil 1, :yesnod: Don't bother with the "specialty oils;" hype and marketing, though users will claim differently, of course. It's an established fact that people will claim what they use is best, no matter what it is. Try buying a quart of Amsoil, Royal Purple, or whatever on the road.

All the best!

Check the test viscosity numbers at temperature, Mobil-1 is the worst of all those you mention. Hype? I don't think so. Is it required for the street, that's up to you. I prefer the better protection it the high temps these motors run at in traffic on a really hot day :yesnod:

Mobil 1 used to be a good synthetic oil before all the "what constitues a synthetic" wars between them and castrol. The courts said something like 30% synthetic was sufficient to call it sythetic, so castrol won, and mobil 1 followed suit to compete. They sell strictly based on their name alone now. Its all hype and BS what they claim. Poltics, and being in cahoots with GM, and on and on and on....

I saw above someone say AMSOIL is the best. Well I would agree, but I would also say Redline is the best too. You see, there's pretty much only one way to process a 100% synthetic properly, and they both use the same highest quality base stocks, and the oils are 100% synthetic. After that your just buying a name again.

As long as you stay away from the hype of off the shelf "sythetics" and realize the difference between true 100% synthetics like Redline and Amsoil, you will be fine.

At 9900 miles, just had my 3rd oil change at the Chevy dealership. I supplied 7 quarts of RED LINE 10W30 along with a UPF44 filter. The bill came to $14.40 for labor. Amsoil and RED LINE are all over the archives, you can't go wrong with either. For one oil change a year, I don't worry about paying $7 per quart.
