Default Please Help - Identify My 2003 Fuel System

Can someone out there tell me if my 2003 Z06 has the early or later (2004) fuel system?

My service manual talks about a cross over tube in a clamp above the transmission that locks into the left and right tanks. I don't have anything like that. All my car has is a hose running between the two tanks. In the bottom of each tank, behind a cover, I have what appears to be sending units or pumps.

See the photos below. So is this the 2004 system or the earlier system? My understanding is the 2004 system is a PITA to work on.

I've got a P0442 with a gas smell around rear of the car only when I fill-up. No obvious leaks but clearly I've got an open vent somewhere. Ideas?

It looks like the earlier system. I have the FFS system in my 2003 Z06 and you need to drop the tanks in order to get access to the internals. The sticker in your glove compartment will have a FFS code listed if you have it.

Thanks. I do not have RPO FFS so it's the older one. I guess that's good. I read the service manual some more and discovered I was reading the FFS section... few pages earlier was the non-FFS section where it stated "cross over hose" which I clearly have. Looks like the FFS system has a metal corrugated pipe between the tanks.

Still no luck in finding my EVAP leak. Have to find myself a smoker I guess.

The presence of your fuel lines on the lower, rear, section of your fuel tank, as well as the presence of an external fuel filter are proof you do NOT have an "FFS" fuel system, meaning you have the "early".

Be thankful.

Btw, on your fuel smell issue, try to make a conscious effort to not "top off" your tank when filling. First or second click of the handle tops. See if things improve.

Leak was at the left end of the cross over hose. Tightened clamp and all is well.

Good news.

Did you remove the L/R wheel house panel to help with access or the inspection?

Yes. Had to do that to inspect the filler tube. I also removed the right side so I could get at the EVAP canister and vent at top of right tank. All seemed good there.
