Alternator whine ?
The whine from the alternator in our 2001 coupe seems to be getting louder with each passing mile (14.300 miles now), or maybe it's just my tolerence is decreasing. It's excessive when compared to the whine from the alternator in our Cad (38,000 miles). After a few hours in the Vette we don't even notice the Cad's alternator whine!
Anyone have their C-5 alternator with excessively loud whine replaced by the dealer under warranty?

Bill, I have had mine replaced twice by the dealer under warantee for the same whine. Both times the replacement alternator whines. They thought it would go away with time, but like you it is still there and very embarassing for the suposed flag ship of Chevrolet and GM.

My original had a minor whine. The replacement rattles
like I'm dragging a chain...The second replacement goes on next week.
Dealer tells me there is a product test of about 1:12 units on
replacement parts versus 1:4 on original factory (line) parts.
I guess that means you have a 3X more often failure rate after
replacement.
But, if it's under warranty, get it replaced as often as necessary.

I had mine replaced and the replacement still has some whine but not as bad as the original unit. Keep trying.

Can somebody explain this alternator whine ?! I have the Fuelpump whine but it doesnt bother me much.
Maybe i cannot hear the alternator because my Fuelpump is too loud :D
