Oil filter question
I made this as to not butt in on someone's else's thread.
First time I changed the oil on my car in 2003, I used a Fram oil filter, then I read somewhere they were not good so switched to the AC Delco filter, I'm sorry but I buy my mobil 1 oil and AC Delco oil filter at walmart.
Once I was talking to a shop, that is a sponsor here about if my engine would handle a supercharger, we discussed the miles, oil changes, etc, what brand.
I felt good saying I use Mobil 1 5-30 full synthetic, and AC Delco oil filter, he asked where I bought them, I said Wal Mart.
He said the AC Delco oil filter I get at Wal Mart is not very good.
Is this true?

Highly doubtful, filters still do their jobs regardless, its just that there are certain filters that are more durable and provide better peace of mind. If you've been changing oil regularly, you're good to go.

In truth, you probably wouldn't have hurt anything running a P.O.S. Fram filter all these years. But if you pull them apart, it's clear that they're (the Frams) very cheaply made and they have been known to disintegrate. It's simply a risk a lot of us don't like to take.

I like them because they're a great bang for the buck. They're made as well as much more expensive filters. There are certainly other quality filters out there though. I don't think you could go wrong with M1, Bosch, Wix, Napa Gold, etc. Just steer clear of the bargain basement stuff like Fram and Supertech.

the pur1, mobil1 or k&n are the 3 i would look for if you walmart shop. the mobil1's were on sale not long ago and i picked up a few for $6 each
the ac delco isn't bad, just didn't test as well as those above 3 did

I thought this was a pretty good link to a lot of information.
http://wetwesties1.tripod.com/oilfil...ilfilters.html
On each type of filter there is a link to that oil filter with pictures and and explanation of the type and opinions about it.
At the bottom of the page there is a link to their main page that will let you browse more of the details of testing, etc.
Personally, I usually get Purolator filters.

I use the ACDelco Ultraguard Gold UPF44. I don't think they make them any more. I have 2 cases of them that should last me another 10 years, after that it will be my grandsons problem of which filter to use.

I belive supertech oil is Valvoline "Ashland Chemical" however I would not put it in my Corvette lol

The filters sold at Wamart are the same quality as sold any place else. Walmart doesn't get "factory rejects" or anything like that.
I use a PureOne PL14006 ... highest filtering efficiency out there, and it DOES flow well. This internet false rumor the PureOnes are "too restrictive" is a bunch of internet BS.

What this guy says about the PureOne is not true, and he has zero data to backup his so called claim on the restrictiveness of the PureOne. Link above proves they are not restrictive.
The Fram Ultra is also an excellent filter ... the only Fram I'd use. It has full synthetic media and metal end caps, and it rated for 15K oil change intervals. Very well made oil filter.

On another thread, someone mentioned Mobil 1 full synthetic has lower zinc, than it once did, and to now use Mobil 1 high mileage.
I see the regular kind I have been using is 200 PPM less than the high mileage on Phosphorus, and 200 PPM less Zinc than the high mileage.

I bought a Purolator Classic oil filter L14006 at Wal Mart ($3.27), in place of the Ac Delco oil filter I usually get.
Is the "classic" ok, or do I need the "one"?
It was .70 cheaper than the Ac Delco, I took both out of their boxes, Purolator is a little bigger.

We used an Ac delco filter to battle test our LS1 engine mules to develop the first production engine in the world to bench mark at 200,000 miles. Its all I use. I would not use any other filter. AS far as extended oil, I would not use it. There is a Heat additive in the Mobil 1 synthetic which is very important to the lubricity under high heat and strees that is necessary in an LSX engine in a C5 . Castrol edge is also OK . I would never use a fram filter.
