Default C5 Headlight Motor Replacement.

While waiting on a replacement headlight motor to arrive I turned on the lights and pulled the motor fuses to keep the lights open. After I replace the motor is it best to turn the lights back on and replace the fuses, then turn them off to close the lights or should I crank the lights down by hand and then replace the fuses?

I would say install the new motor and start the lights off in the same position up or down
