Default Clicks but no start thinks its the solenoid?

2001 coupe 6sp. Hey gents this has been going on for awhile but I lived with it. Sometimes the car would fire up first try other times I would have to turn the key and hear it click at the starter area. I would turn the key a few nore times click click click and then it would finally fire over. Lately its been taking more times to turn the key and click before it finally fires over. Today it said screw you so I had to push start it. I changed the solenoid awhile back and I'm thinking its either going out and not engaging the plunger or motor took it out. I got it off ebay for 25 shipped a year ago. It worked fine then started doing this once in awhile now it is on a daiy occurance and just gave out. I did clean out the ignition witch as per bill c write up and no changes so I just assumed it was the solenoid. I also tried jumping the theft deterrent system above the Mcm with the purple and red wire to bypass that system to insure it wasn't that even after I cleaned the ignition points. I also cleaned all 3 keys to insure the resistors didn't have a issue. Also batter is fully charged and had the charger on jump to insure it was getting full voltage. I cleared my codes earlier so I don't know what I had if any. So I don't have any now. I'm 99 percent its the starter but looking for some feedback. Posting from my phone so if it sounds weird sorry

The stock starters are known as PMGR starters. The PMGR stands for permanent magnet gear reduction. I have a similar PMGR starter made for BBC engines in my drag boat, and it spins my 565 BBC with ease. Much smaller and more powerful than previous stock starters.

I started having this problem last year. After replacing the starter, it hasn't happened again.

Any opinion on the high torque ones vs OEM? Stock block with blower and cam and supporting mods

Same problem here to. I changed the starter too and that solved it. But 5 months later the "O Reiley" lifetime starter did it again and I have it on the lift to change it again tonight after wok.

Sound familure.
I had my starter rebuilt before installing it on my new motor. Had the intermitted click, and later start. I tested everything and finally pulled the starter. I "bench tested it" and it seemed fine, so my dumb butt put it back on and searched some more. It then went to a NO SOUND at all, so I pulled it AGAIN and sent it to the shop. They said the "new" solenoid was bad AND one of the brush holders was loose
Replaced it all and it works perfect.

I replaced my factory starter with the bosch mentioned above when I did my clutch... my factory starter worked fine I just wanted to use the newer design to lessen the risk for snapping the ear off the block... I also covered the new one with adhesive heat shield just for extra protection, me headers are coated too so it really doesn't get as hot as some cars but if I'm already there a little more heat protection can't hurt... so if you end up having to change it you are not only getting a new starter but you won't have to worry about breaking your block either and that will help justify the purchase

Just for ***** and giggles, go borrow an appropriate sized battery and try it. I know your battery is charged, but it sounds like a battery.

Hey Joe it was the solenoid for sure I even swapped the old one back just to make sure something wasn't loose on it. The plunger wasn't engaging
