Default Need "new" driverside front running light bulb socket

While having both headlight motors replaced today the Tech tried to install a new bulb for the driver side front running light and reported "socket is melted and broken"..here's the deal..my parking or running light still works but it won't blink for the turn signal. Luckily the rear still blinks (real fast)

This is the Question:

What's the best source for a replacement front socket.. new/used (?)

Or is there an upgrade that won't melt and break ??

Thanks

I just noticed some black debris inside my lamp assembly..tech probably knocked off pieces of the old burnt socket while trying to install a bulb..grrrrr..I see a complete new lamp assembly on EBAY (#370657307313) it's priced right, but I'm guessing I'll still need a new socket. Oh the joys of owning a fussy car..!

I had an orange bulb blow up in mine years ago and that crap is still in there.

in regards to the sockets they can be had at the local parts store.......my advice buy 2 and replace both.

going to LEDs is the only way they won't melt....thats what I will do next time I buy lights

Hmmm..switching to an LED socket might be the way to go since I have to change sockets anyway... But if I just do the one side I guess the light intensity might be different. plus I'll still have that black crap in my lamp..thinking I might save up a little coin and replace with LED and at that time add a new lens housing.

I don't suppose there is ANY way to get the burned socket debris out of there at this point..oh well always something ain't it. You're never bored when ya got a vette.

Replaced both of my 98's but can't recall what vendor I used.

Here is link to one of the forum vendors listing if you need it.

yeah we tried all kinds of stuff still looks like a Kaleidoscope

....they make LEDs that go in that style socket BUT you need the resistor so they flash right

Remove housing, turn upside down, shake vigorously, re-install housing.

What a concept!

Oh, btw, that bulb socket is a PICO 5447PT. Sold everywhere.

From what I have heard from my local corvette wrecking yard it is common as the housing is too close to the bulb. It gets the housing hot, it cracks on top, you wash your car, or it rains, water gets in the socket, and bam, bad bulb/socket. NUT, he told me, (and I have replaced both of mine with) Tail lamp sockets. They are easier to come by and cheaper for some reason

Thanks Jamieo.....I will keep you posted on what I decide..but I'm the Low-Buck King around here so likely I'll go with just a replacement socket and live with debris for now..(gives it character, right?) I just blew 2 mos mad money having 2 new headlight motors installed..

BTW my headlight covers are no longer perfectly flush, but I'm so happy to finally have working pop-ups that I almost don't care..anyway that's gonna be the subject for another thread.

You can remove the housing and patch the hole with RTV or JB weld . Then put some high temp tape over the patch to ensure water stays out.
Aluminum tape used on HVAC joints works well.
