Smoke coming from under the dash
In my 99 and going about 70 mph when smoke started billowing out from under the left side of the dash. I braked, turned the key off and coasted to a stop. The smoke stopped and I started back up with no problem.
After the panic subsided, I realized I had just set the cruise control before it started. When I braked it would have turned off.
Anybody have anything like this? What should I look for?

One of the things you could look for if something was really burning would be a new buyer. (Sorry, a joke). And the car runs fine? Did you try the cruise control again?

It was smoke and it had the odor of wires overheating.
No, I have not used the cruise again.
Yes, I would love to find a buyer and upgrade.

You need to start by removing the knee bolster and look at the wiring. In particular. a lot of power runs through the ignition switch electrical contacts. I have a link at home on how to remove if you need it.
I would not leave the battery connected in case it is related to a wiring that is ALWAYS HOT.

Thank you for the suggestions. I haven't used the cruise control again and have had no problems. I guess I'll take it apart see if I can see what got hot.
