Ok so I have chosen to do the zip tie mod.

I plan on replacing the zip ties with bigger, better ones and a new air filter as soon as tommorow. But do I have the concept down?

Here's the DIY

How does this look

OK,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The main goal with an aftermarket filter/Housing is MORE AIR and COOLER AIR.

You "WILL" get more air,,,,,,,,,,,, "HOWEVER" it may NOT be cooler air. Cooler (more dense air) increases HP. Without isolating the engine compartment from the filter, you will be gulping OTHER THAN TRUE COLD AIR.

My recommendation would be to install a VARARAM and be done with it.

On a side note,,,,, This is the MOST cost effective FREE mod that you can do. If you like the improvemant,, just keep what you have.

Eventually I do plan on a vararam.

Thanks for your help bill. You were a life saver when I was having my voltage issues.

In addition to the Zip tie mod like you show, you can do a cold air version of it by flipping it over.

Take a look at the following link for another version of the zip tie that is a cold air one.

Is there any concern with water issues if you get caught in the rain? I am considering doing this but water ingestion is my worry?
