Will be dropping tranny, any recommended mods or maintenance to do at the same time?
I'll be replacing my MM6 transmission with a M12 here on the next two to three weeks in my 99 coupe. My MM6 has 143k miles on it and grinds going into first and occasionally 4th, and pops out of 6th frequently.
I plan on installing my kooks LT headers while I do the tranny swap.
Is there any other maintenance I can do while the tranny is out? Hoping there are a few things I can knock out, I would hate to miss some simple mod or maintenance that would require me to re drop the tranny or something!
Any recommended maintenance to go along with a tranny swap? How about any mods that would be easy to do while pulling the tranny?
Any ideas would be appreciated, preferably the cheaper stuff :P

Agree with Marty. I had a pilot bushing go bad @ 128K, so since it all had to come out I did the bushing, clutch, slave, torque tube bushings and bearings, checked everything in the trans and new seals everywhere.

does anything cheap exist on these cars?... if you plan to keep the car or add more power the clutch is a no brainer... I would suggest getting more clutch than you need so you can grow into it if you add more power down the line, it isn't a job you will look forward to doing twice... make sure to get all the goodies with it, gm slave, pilot bearing, remote bleeder, etc... I would also look into replacing the torque tube couplers, factory rubber if you aren't running a lot of power and poly if you are or plan on it... and finally all new fluids in the trans/diff and new seals if the diff is leaking... if they aren't leaking I wouldn't worry about replacing them now since they can be replaced fairly easy with the diff still in the car, the rest of that stuff requires removal of the driveline

OH MY LORD!! YES!!
As previously recommended:
Remote Bleeder line
New OEM GM TT rubber couplers and bearings
New Pilot Bearing, Slave Cyl, Throw Out Brg
Add Synthetic AFT to the new MN12
Rearend Up-Grades!!
Check out the following post. I accomplished these mods and very happy that I did!! If nothing else,, replace the output shaft seals and the 75/90 lube with new:
- C5, ragtopws6 , Upgrading your C5 rear with C6 Z06 guts, : http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-z06-guts.html
-
- C5, Its_Go_Time, Output Shaft Install - Left and Right: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...post1573407966
- C5 Differential Seal replacement: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...on-photos.html
I would also replace the Clutch MASTER CYL with a new OEM.-
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!
CLUTCH BALANCE! Mark the flywheel to crank position and have the new flywheel MATCH BALANCED to the Old Flywheel or you could get unwanted engine/drivetrain vibrations!!
- C5 Clutch Vibration Issues: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...post1585950971
Another IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
MAKE SURE that you do the critical clutch SALVE CYL measurements and proper shimming as required:
- C5 TICK Master Cylinder FACTS: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...inder-kit.html
Also recommended that you carefully examine the OEM Engine and differential mounts as they are well known to deteriorate and break!
Hope this helps.

As Bill mentioned... definitely do the slave cylinder!!! Don't ask me what happens when it fails lol. The master cylinder is relatively easy to get to when the car is assembled.
Everything else mentioned here is also worth doing too, particularly the remote bleeder.
