Upgrading to 3.42 rear diff and Yank SS3200 TC - any potential transmission problems?
Hey guys,
I just purchased a 2002 Corvette last week with about 124,000 miles on the odometer. It's my first Corvette and I actually enjoy driving now! It has 2.73 gears, and I'd like to get some more power off the line, so I'd like to upgrade to a 3.42 rear diff and Yank SS3200 TC. My question is, should I be prepared for my transmission to crap out on me after I perform this upgrade? Would it be wise to purchase something like a RPM level 4 transmission to go along with the upgrade, or maybe just leave it be and see what happens?

Uneducated overachiever
Put a trans cooler in for sure, go with a high quality trans fluid too. It might still crap out eventually, but will be a lot of fun until it does.

If you have the $$, put the rpm trans in now. See this link. It refers to the a6 trans, but the theory still applies.

Now that I've thought about it some more, I'm pretty hesitant about dropping $4k just to get a better gear ratio and torque converter. How do you guys think just upgrading the gears would affect the transmission? IE, upgrading to 3.42 or 3.73 gears and leaving it at that.

That will make life easier for the trans. You can always do the trans and converter later. Spend another $150.00 and get the mail order tune. You need to get the shift point changed anyway.
