Default valve spring dilemma!

Hey guys! I recently installed a Brian tooley stage 3 cam kit and I was getting some smoke at idle so I pulled the valve springs and checked the valve seals and all of them were pushed up into the valve stem. I came to the conclusion the double spring is pulling the valve seal up. What is the best single beehive spring I can use with the stock retainers and stock valve seal with the integrated seat. Cam spec is 231/242 - .598/.617 @ 112lsa.. any help will be appreciated!

I'll be running an LS3 in my 01 coupe and I'm using the LSX single beehive springs (the .650 one's). My cam's got a .625 lift so that's plenty. What sold me was that I could use the stock keepers and seats.

How did you install the seals. Were you sure they were fully seated?

While I'm not an expert, I've not heard of this happening with properly installed springs... Have you called Brian? He would have a good answer for you.

How did you install the seals?
We use the BTR dual spring kits with seals all day long, when installed properly we see very few issues, but we do see a lot of issues when not installed right.
If you use a hammer and socket or something to tap them on, then they will most likely pop off as yours did.
The inner spring will not contact or pull up the seal unless installed wrong. I think yours just popped off from installation, it takes finesse to get them on right and to stay on.
We don't use beehive springs for a big cam.

thanks for the replys! a shop around here did them originally with the cam swap. Yesterday I personally pulled all the springs and installed new seals after roughing up the guide a little and wiping them off of any residual oil and yes I used the socket and hammer method. The seals only go on one way and only go so far on the guide, so I don't know how it can be messed up. So far running great, ran it through a few heat cycles and high RPM blasts, no smoke! Hopefully it was either the seals that came with the BTR kit or the way they installed them because if it happens again, it has to be the inner spring.

Unfortunately some of them will probably pop off again. The hammer and socket method usually does not work. The best way to do it is to gently press them on, rather than impacting them on. I use the spring compressor tool and a couple sockets to press them on just enough, and it seems to work out pretty well.

Sounds like they goofed on the original installation.
