"active handling enabled" message....
Hi Guys;
I encountered a problem on my way to work the other night.
Car: 98 C5, base, auto, all stock except canned hypertech tune.
Conditions: Flat, level highway. 65-70 MPH, cruising. Just a few minutes after getting on highway.
Felt car slow down, pushed accelerator pedal; NO response! None!! Engine still running, just not responding to accelerator input.
Looked at dash: DIC display said "active handling enabled".
Turned off traction control by pushing button on console. Message went away, accelerator responded as normal. Turned traction control back on, problem returned. Turned it off again and continued to work.
Started up the next morning to return home, problem has not returned, YET!!
BTW; cannot retrieve codes through DIC, cluster is bad, so will have to get codes through plug-in code reader. Have not had time to do this yet.
Very limited electrical experience here, I need a "multi-tester for dummies" book. I can wrench, just not good at figuring out electrical stuff.
I'm one of those "red means don't touch it while standing in a pool of water, right?" kinda guys..........
Any suggestions for this electrically clueless C5 owner??
I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving.

I doubt that the scanne that you purchase will read the EBTCM and display its DTCs Some dont. Make sure that the one that you select, will read the Body and Chassis modules.
I would say that you most likely have a SWPS issue.
REMEMBER,,, Each time you turn the ignition OFF, the DTCs sent by the EBTCM clear. You have to read the DTCs when the car is running.

There are so many things that could be causing it, so you'll need to find a way to check codes.

Thanks for the replies so far guys! Stroker 87; yes, I have changed tires and rims lately. Would changing the tire sizes have something to do with this?
I recently put Grand sport replica rims and new tires on.

Simply even though stock the C5 comes with staggered wheels. 17/18 inch respectively, the total diameter in inch's will be very close to the same because of the aspect ratio of the tires front to rear.

Hmmm...... When I get a chance I will check the sizes front and rear and maybe you guys can point me in the right direction. I believe the rear tires are shorter overall than the stock ones.

Rule of thumb is that the rear tires need to be 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches larger in diameter than the fronts for AH to work. Seen many tires swaps here cause AH problems. If you don't care about AH then tire sizes are no issue.
