PCV Valve and breather filters
I have a 99 corvette and getting oil into my intake from my PCV valve. Can I take the valve and hose off the car and add some breather filters in place and cap off the intake ports? Option 2: Can I install a Breather filter on the end of the PCV valve line and add a breather on the fresh air port on the passenger side valve cover? Thanks in advance.
Phillip
BTW I am not really looking to add fuel filters to fix this problem. THX! :D

Re: PCV Valve and breather filters (Phil97SVT)
I recently took my '01 coupe (MN6) in for an oil consumption test. The current GM procedure is to change the PCV valve to a "new and improved valve," and then monitor oil usage. The valve they put in is brass-colored, has a much smaller hole, and it does not have a rattling filter on the inside like the ones of the past. I think the part number is: 12572717
Much to my surprise, the car does not ping like it did with the stock PCV valve, so I'm assuming that less oil is making it back into the intake. So far, I have not closely monitored my oil usage, but I'll update that fairly soon.
In any event, you might at least look into this newer valve. :seeya

The breather filters are a good idea but don't help much.
The hollow PCV reduces pressure and functionality of the PCV system. People have had mixed results using hollow PCV's.
I've tried many of the above and prefer to use a 5 micron Air Compressor filter inline.

just switch to the ZO6 valley pan and PCV system! That will solve your problem...

Re: PCV Valve and breather filters
Here's the best solution I've seen to date--and it looks very promising--look for the guy whose screenname is "Dope":

What about simply unlugging the pcv from the intake and leave it hanging. I know someone that has it like this for a couple years and his car runs awesome? Is this bad? Any opinions out there?

Well, pulling a vacuum on you crankcase helps out on a couple of things. It will help the piston rings seal better. This will also lead to longer ring life.
It is a good idea to keep your PCV system intact. We have used a catch-can in the past on an F-body and it worked flawlessly. Definitly the best way to go. We have also used a small inline fuel filter on a C5 ATI supercharged Vette and it worked great.
Good luck,

Hmmm, that's the number the service guy gave me when they replaced mine. What's it for? Maybe they're using a part from another car? Or, and I know this is going out on a limb, but maybe the service writer actually made a mistake and guy gave me the wrong number?
Seriously, if you have any info about that part, please let me know so I can call him and probe into what they're up to. Thanks. :seeya

I do know the application, but the chev parts dept confirmed that the number is not applicable to a corvette. Call the parts dept. and ask what that number is applied to.

That part number is not for a vette.
As much as I would've not believed it, it appears to be helping the consumption on my car. However, not too long after I bought my car and before I did my own PCV mod, I had pinging issues, and I cured them with an internet-recommended PCV mod. When I took my car in for the oil consumption issue, I took out my mod, and it was replaced with the new PCV valve referenced above; afterward, I had no pinging for about 600-700 miles, but recently it has returned. This leads me to believe that for the first 600 or so miles the valve was helpful, but now it is starting to fail and oil is making it back into my intake in too large a quantity. :mad
